This is a memorial page for the legend that was John Thorne.  He was born to Edna and James in Creswick Road Knowle West. He was the 5th child of 10, he was also the surviving twin. His first job at the age of 14 was at a scrap yard, and he used to “borrow” the cars and drive around.   He was first married at 19 to Rhona and had his two sons Christian and Jonathan.  He was a superb scaffolder for many many years, he worked on both Severn bridges and Clifton suspension bridge. He worked at Hinkley and Berkeley power stations. He even became the foreman before he sadly got made redundant.  He married Mary when he was 44 on the 18th of August and 2 years later had their daughter Becky.  John then became a lorry driver for Hills Delivery up until his retirement, which lasted about a week before he got bored and went back to driving.  He lived a very full and happy life surrounded by his friends and family. Family was so important to him.  As most people know about John the Dings Crusaders was his family also. He was a fantastic player and a valued member of the rugby community as well as his club. As long as he was still able he would be at every home match and the occasional away match. He was overjoyed he was able to see the Dings move to their new grounds at Frenchay and even more so to watch the last match against Lydney with all his family and loved ones before his health declined.  John Thorne had no regrets in life and was very vocal about that. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
