Alex Patrick O'Farrell

  • 28.10.1970 - 19.06.2019

Alex grew up in Allerton Crescent, Whitchurch along with his Mother Maureen, Father Jim, Brother Philip and Sister Annette. At the age of 6 he became a part of the local cub’s group which then progressed into him becoming a scout where he not only made some great lifelong friends but also met his wife Sarah. He was also a part of a canoe polo team and enjoyed hiking holidays away with the guys. By trade he was a service engineer working 20 years for ADT fire and security. In 2009, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour. He had surgery and chemotherapy. In 2016, he had a re-occurrence of his tumour, he had another surgery and then underwent radiotherapy and for a short time chemotherapy again. He survived through this until in January this year he was found to have another re-growth of tumour as well as a cyst that had developed in the cavity in his brain left from the previous tumours. He had surgery for the third time but after the surgery the doctors said that there was no more treatment that they could do. Alex was a fighter and held onto life for as long as he could but on the 19th June 2019 he gave up the battle and passed away peacefully at home with his wife Sarah, his two daughters Hannah and Alice and his granddaughter Ivy. Throughout Alex’s last tumour he has had amazing support from St. Peters Hospice, Brain Tumour Support, District Nurses, Marie Curie and a team of carers.
